  • We Insist on Work-Life Balance

At Healing Paws, we prioritize the well-being of our team members by fostering a healthy work-life balance. We understand the importance of time for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation, which is why we insist on every team member enjoying a designated lunch hour. In our practice, we work together as a team to ensure that you actually get your lunch hour. We know that life in a veterinary practice can be chaotic, but you deserve time to decompress during this period of rest. So, we take turns to make sure you don’t go a day without your lunch hour. Additionally, we’re closed on weekends, except for the first Saturday of every month, which rotates among the team—meaning you might only have to work one Saturday a month. We also offer flexible working hours, including the option for half-days, to accommodate your schedule. At Healing Paws, we don’t just prioritize work-life balance—we actively support and enforce it to ensure the well-being of our team members.

Hear What Our Loving Team Has to Say!

Wondering what it's like to work with us? Hear directly from our team members:

One of the best things about working at Healing Paws Veterinary Clinic was spending each day with a team that is truly dedicated to enriching the lives of pets and their families. I loved having the opportunity to collaborate with other amazing veterinarians at Healing Paws on difficult cases, and to be part of the professional and caring way our team members interacted with our clients and their pets.

Another enjoyable aspect of working at Healing Paws was getting to know our clients! They are wonderful people that love their pets, and it was an honor to be allowed to participate in their care.

Professionally, I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to become Fear Free Certified. Through that program, I was able to appreciate the benefit of utilizing Fear Free methods to create the most positive experience possible for our patients. The entire Healing Paws team is trained in Fear Free techniques and in many instances, using those skills to alleviate fear and discomfort allowed us to deliver the best possible care for a pet that might otherwise be stressed and anxious.

I loved working at Healing Paws! The environment was always fun and invigorating. If there was a difficult or busy time, the leadership would respond with encouragement and positive attitudes to make it better. However, my favorite thing about Healing Paws is that patient care always comes first and is closely followed by team support and mentoring. They care about their employees and in turn the employees care about their patients. Moving away from Springfield and leaving Healing Paws was the saddest day of my career.

I felt supported at Healing Paws, and several experiences come to mind. On multiple occasions me, or another team member, approached leadership with a problem or concerns and we were listened to. Our issues were not ignored and they were immediately addressed each time. Leadership genuinely cared about my opinion and would ask how I thought the issue needed to be addressed. If possible, leadership would ask me to lead or be involved with the solution and any support of supplies I needed would be provided. They truly cared about improving our practice and our work experience. Through these experiences, I gained knowledge about different areas of vet med and leadership. Because of my involvement, I was able to see the fruits of my labor and my passion for working in a veterinary clinic only grew.

I enjoyed working at Healing Paws for many reasons! It was great to be part of such a friendly and supportive team. We always had fun together and put in a lot of hard work as a team to take care of our patients. As a pet owner and animal lover, it was fulfilling knowing I had a role at the clinic that could help so many pets and their owners. To this day, I still talk about how much I value having worked there. I always felt supported personally and professionally, even when I decided to move on from that position. It was my first time in a full time job post-college, and it was a perfect start to my workforce journey.

I enjoyed working at Healing Paws because I knew that my coworkers were all there to help the patients. From the veterinarians to the kennel techs, we all wanted to make sure that the pets were getting the best possible care and treated them as our own, even when the pets weren’t as cooperative as we would like. When I was there, Dr. Wantuck started the practice on its Fear Free journey and while it took a little to get used to, overall the patients really did benefit from taking our time, giving anxiety medications, and so much more that Fear Free encompasses. I am now working in human medicine, and I tease my coworkers about how I can still use my same skill sets that I learned at Healing Paws – explain what I am doing, obtain consent, and use a gentle touch. Dr. Wantuck and her practice is everything a veterinary office should be, and I can say, they are few and far between.

One of my favorite times while I was at Healing Paws was honestly during COVID. Was it chaotic? Absolutely – but the amount of teamwork that went into figuring out how we can continue to serve our patients and their owners was amazing. Everyone had ideas and suggestions on how to make things work better or smoother. Dr. Wantuck took the ideas into consideration, collaborated with the other veterinarians and the office manager, and created a game plan that worked for us. In addition to the teamwork that COVID showcased,

Dr. Wantuck made a point to send team members to continuing education conventions. Throughout my time there, I believe five us went to a variety of conventions. She is always wanting her employees to be in the know on new ideas or processes for the patients. Continuing education is something that you will always get more out of when you are in person, and she makes that happen. Seeing the way the office communicates, works together, and looks out for each other is something I will always look for in any new role I take on, now that I know if can be done with the right people at the head of it.
